Music from the East | Meet our next acts for Different Sounds 2017
Female electronic musicians from Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus, an indie rock band from Ternopil, an acoustic duet from Tbilisi and an improvising musician who rounds off the presentation of contemporary Polish music are among the next acts for the upcoming East of Culture – Different Sounds Festival that is part of the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of granting city rights to Lublin.
East of Culture – Different Sounds is a festival that each year surprises attendees with the original selection of the most intriguing performers from Eastern Partnership countries. Contemporary music from Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine or Belarus has enchanted the audience many times thus far. It will be the same this year, among others courtesy of three musicians playing electronic music. Each comes from a different country, each also performs a slightly different variety of contemporary club music. They share talent, youth and most of all an original approach to their own work. Between 5-9 July in Lublin, you can expect to see: Tbilisi-born Natalie Beridze, the Kiev-based Grisly Faye and Mustelide who comes straight from the Belarusian capital. These three ladies of Eastern electronic music prove that contemporary music knows no boundaries, has no limits and that it very effectively breaks established stereotypes.
This year’s Eastern iteration of “different sounds” is not just electronics. On stage, we will also see two “live” bands – the Georgia-based Mebo Renard and the Ukrainian Tik Tu. The former is a duet, part of BearFox that was so well received at our festival three years ago. Archibald is responsible for all percussion instruments, whereas Mebo plays the guitar and gives us his phenomenal, memorable voice. Tik Tu is a rising star of Ukrainian indie rock straight from Ternopil. Interesting compositions, stage ease, unpretentiousness and catchy tunes are their trademarks.
The Polish representation in this year’s line-up will be completed by an absolutely unique artist – Wacław Zimpel. The winner of Paszporty Polityki award, multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser – a Renaissance man who, as he says, would not exist without music. It is very fortunate for us as thanks to this, we will have a chance to experience his wonderful music again. At Different Sounds, Wacław Zimpel will present his solo act.
East of Culture – Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival takes place from 5-9 July 2017. All events are free.
