Tales of Eastern Wonders – Traditional songs from Volyn, Podole and the Ukrainian Carpathians

Traditional songs from Volyn, Podole and the Ukrainian Carpathians, such as „O Bożej Matce Poczajewskiej”, „O Sierocie”,  „O Biedzie” or „Oj na morzu, na czarnym”, are performed alongside folk stories about among others the tradition of travelling singers. Members of the audience will be given an opportunity to accompany the singing by playing the hurdy gurdy, a stringed instrument brought specially from Ukraine to be used during the Festival. Songs performed by Andriy Lyashuk to the accompaniment of the hurdy gurdy can be heard at festivals and fairs, in museums and streets, as well as in the vicinity of the gate to the Pochayiv Lavra.

Performed by Andriy Lyashuk, a Kovel-born musician fascinated by the musical tradition of the Polesie and Volyn regions.
