Little Different Sounds
Little Different Sounds, which will take place at East of Culture – Different Sounds (28 June – 01 July 2018, Lublin) is an original educational programme aimed at getting children and teenagers acquainted with sound and various music genres. It also aims at showing that music is a rich cognitive field offering a place of exciting fun. All workshops are practical and are geared towards strengthening the creativity of the participants. The programme has been created with a view to developing active stances and creative thinking as well as enabling a meeting with music creators. The series emphasizes dialogue and opening to the real needs of the participants. The workshops allow discovering one’s creative potential in an atmosphere of great fun. As part of “Little Different Sounds” we are holding, among others, a series of music workshops called “Let’s play!”
A workshop during which we will create and record an original song. The participants will actively take part in the process of writing lyrics, music and arranging the song. The idea is to approach the chosen theme in an unconventional way, draw out the creative potential of the participants and let them make most of the decisions. The participants are meant to be responsible creators and not just performers of a piece. The material recorded in a professional studio will be accompanied by a music video created at a later workshop with a different group of participants. Instructor: Jerzy „Słoma” Słomiński Ages: 8-12
Make a clip!
A workshop during which the participants will produce a music video to accompany the song recorded earlier. The participants will be trained in using the equipment (GoPro camera, filming drones), get acquainted with the basics of filming (a meeting with a camera operator), rules and principles of editing ( a meeting with a film editor). The idea is to approach the chosen theme in an unconventional way, draw out the creative potential of the participants and let them make most of the decisions. The participants are meant to be responsible creators and not simply executors of someone else’s visions and orders. We will introduce important issues concerning copyright and image rights. A meeting with a unique instrument. The participants will learn how to play an original, visually appealing instrument. Musicon is a unique musical instrument designed to stimulate children’s development, both physical and mental. It makes it possible to compose and simultaneously play the pieces. It operates just like a barrel organ or a music box – simple mechanisms produce sounds. Owing to its simplicity, children intuitively know how to use it, strive to make it happen that through experimentation and constant trials which are always successful. Musicon inspires, fascinates with its movement, sound and endless possibilities. It involves children in activities strictly fostering the development of creativity. It fosters the development of fine motor skills, abstract thinking, social skills and imagination. Musicon was Kamil Laszuk’s graduation project at Fine Arts Academy in Wrocław in 2011. In this project he combines two passions – design and music. Before he got round to designing it, he had written a thesis on the influence of music on the psycho-physical development of children.
