In April, Different Sounds Zone invites you to a double concert. It will be an opportunity to hear two unique bands – the Polish Ciśnienie, from Katowice and the Canadian Alpha Strategy. The stage in Workshops of Culture will thus welcome not only two countries but also two original styles and bands that will likely bring a lot more than a double dose of energy.
Alpha Strategy – a Toronto-based quartet offering an explosive mix of garage rock’n’roll, punk, shoegaze and several other related guitar styles. However, most of all, Lublin fans of “different sounds” may look forward to a truly elemental, exuberant gig. The band is currently on a big European tour to promote their newest album – “The gurgler” which has not only scored great reviews, but has been recorded in the famous Electrical Audio Studios. The session was directly supervised by the studio’s owner – the legendary Steve Albini. The fans of studio recordings do not need any introduction to this gentleman. Suffice it to recall that Albini, known from Shellac, recorded such brilliant performers as Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Nine Inch Nails, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion or The Pixies, which is just an extra recommendation for Alpha Strategy. The Canadians are also linked to Poland because their publisher is none other than the iconic label Antena Krzyku.

Ciśnienie – established by Maciek Klich, Kacper Kowalczuk, Michał Paduch and Michał Zdrzałka, in Katowice for one reason only: to create the most gripping and intensive music culminations imaginable. In terms of style, it is a mix of post-rock, orchestral music and trance jazz, with elements inspired by such bands as Swans, Fire!, Orchestra and Mogwai, and H.M. Górecki’s music or Arvo Parts. French horn, fiddle and keyboard fuse with seemingly mismatched distorted bass and frenetic percussion, resulting in particularly colourful and varied soundscapes, ranging from improvised psychedelic ambient to rhythm-driven, ostinato walls of sound. In April 2018 the band performed at JazzArt Festival in Katowice in 2018, leading to the release of the tour album “JazzArt Underground” in January 2019.
