When: 20 October 2017 (Friday), 19:00
Where: Workshops of Culture, Grodzka 5a, Lublin – auditorium, 2nd floor
Free event
TeChytrze is an original project of Jacek Steinbrich – a Lublin-based double bassist and guitarist whose musical interests range from punk, blues, minimalism to jazz, free jazz, contemporary and classical music. Jacek is a finalist in the competition Cage 1,2,3 and has taken part in numerous composition and jazz workshops. He works with various bands, including the Polish-Irish free jazz band Re.mus.surf, the psychedelic group Braces are beautiful, the collective Cząstki Elementarne as well as the quartet
Dokalski/Cieślak/Miarczyński/Steinbrich. In the spring of 2017, he set up the band TeChytrze. The idea was to interpret traditional music (mostly songs from Lublin and some from Kurpie) by contemporary musicians deriving from jazz and alternative music and singing female vocal sections in white voice.
TeChytrze about themselves:
As a result of extreme space-time disorders, our great-grandmothers planted cabbage right next to American cotton plantations, reached distant prairies, and were influenced by punk revolution. The themes of slave work songs were entwined with peasant songs, whereas punk and western music were intermingled with lyrical poetry. The unusual neighbourhood and circumstances gave birth to new music genres. Exotic melodies replaced tradiotnal ones, but the lyrics remained the same. TeChytrze try to recreate this kind of music.
