The Polish edition of “The Deaf Republic” translated by Anna Łazar will be published in “Zaktowiczone” series. Ilya Kaminsky’s poems collected in “Deaf Republic” were published in 2019 by Graywolf Press in the USA. The war narrative they present is horrifyingly current. The book was immediately met with great acclaim, earning the author prestigious awards (National Jewish Book Award for Poetry, Los Angeles Times Book Prize and National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, among others).
Ilya Kaminsky was born in Odessa. He lost most of his hearing when as a child he contracted a serious illness. A Ukrainian-Russian-Jewish-American poet, critic, translator, lecture, and professor. He is best known for his poetry collections “Dancing in Odessa” and “Deaf Republic”. The panel will be followed up by a performance inspired by “Deaf Republic”, created by the Lvov artist Volodomyr Topiy.
