Move East Movie: Symphony of the Ursus Factory
dir. Jaśmina Wójcik, Poland, 2018, 60 min
Symphony of the Ursus Factory summarises the director’s five-year-long artistic and research work with the community of former employees of the now-defunct Ursus factory, one of the largest tractor manufacturers in Europe. They try to recall and re-enact gestures, actions and sounds related to their former work, referring to their body memory. The resulting symphony consists of the choreographed movements of the workers and the technical, administrative and managerial staff, accompanied by the recreated phonosphere of the heavy industry. It’s a symphony about a day at work in a plant that no longer exists.
