MOVE EAST MOVIE – presentation of animated movies from Ukranimafilm studios
Ukrainian animation dates back to the 1920s and 1930 but World War II and later famine nearly completely destroyed this art. In 1959 it began to be reborn in the studio “Kyivnaukfilm” under the guidance of the artist and director Hippolytus Lazarchuk and later Iryna Gurvich. In 1990, “Kyivnaukfilm” became “Ukranimafilm and over 300 movies produced there were received awards in the country and at international film festivals.
Move East Movie cycle will present a selection of the most interesting movies produced over the years in Ukrainian film studios, constituting a rich and interesting history of the country’s animation. The animated movies were made using various techniques, including, among others, drawing, cut-out, doll, clay animation or collage, which highlights the rich spectrum of the animators’ work. Watching the movies will be an interesting experience for the youngest audience, whereas for older viewers it might be a sentimental journey to the past.
