Saul Williams
Saul Williams is a very expressive artist, known for his masterful command of language and involvement in the current socio-political problems of the world. For the last 20 years, he has proven to be a man of many talents. His first album, the famous “Amethyst Rock Star” released in 2001 and produced by Rick Rubin created a lot of commotion in the American hip hop scene. The next album, called simply “Saul Williams” on which the artist was supported by guests, including Serj Tankian (System of a Down) and Zack de la Rocha (Rage against the Machine), got good reviews and was very well-received by the fans. Before Williams got into music, he had made a name for himself as a poet. In the second half of the 1990s he was a legend of poetry slams, winning many of them and becoming one of the leaders of the movement, which culminated in his role in the famous movie “Slam” in 1998. In the following years, along with the development of his music career, he went on concert tours with, among others, Nine Inch Nails or Mars Volta and collaborated with The Fugees, Erykah Badu, De La Soul and even Allen Ginsberg. Today, Saul Williams is one of the most important and most influential voices of contemporary America. His art has reached the White House, the Sydney Opera, Louvre or Lincoln Centre. In Lublin we will see his solo act and it will certainly be one of the key moments at this year’s East of Culture – Different Sounds.
