The steps to gender equality in the music industry in Poland | a discussion and presentation of Keychange, an international organisation working towards gender equality in the music industry

What is the situation of women in Poland’s music industry right now? What challenges must we overcome before we can discuss the inclusivity of the music industry in Poland? And ultimately, how can Poland develop a sustainable music industry? These issues are among the main topics of this year’s East of Culture – Different Sounds festival, which since 2021 has had the honour of being an official partner of Keychange, a dynamically growing organisation and business network that supports equal access for women and gender minorities to professional opportunities, festival line-ups, and significant discussions within the international music industry.

During the panel, we will sum up the results of the research project and workshops during which artists and music industry professionals worked on prototypes of solutions promoting inclusion in the music industry in Poland. Additionally, there will be examples and stories from throughout the globe, particularly those that have inspired change and solutions that are successful outside of Poland.

The debate will be preceded by a presentation of the Keychange network – a global movement working for the complete restructuring of the music industry to achieve full gender equality. Keychange consists of cooperating partner organisations from 12 different countries, who are actively working to bring about this change.

Keychange is led by Reeperbahn Festival in Germany, PRS Foundation in the UK and Musikcentrum Öst in Sweden, and is funded by the EU’s programme Creative Europe. Keychange works in partnership with Different Sounds, Tallinn Music Week, Iceland Airwaves, BIME, Oslo World, Linecheck/Music Innovation Hub, Ireland Music Week, SACEM, Liverpool Sound City, Way Out West, MAMA, Mutek, and Breakout West.
